The robin's calls are played on the violin at a quarter of the speed and transposed down two octaves. The sound is recorded into a loop pedal that doubles the speed of the recording, raising the pitch an octave each time. This is repeated again, halving the duration once more and raising the pitch to the robin's natural tessitura.
